1993 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-X KZN130 Widebody

‘Hilux Surf’ is the JDM name for the 4Runner that we know and love over here in the USA. Another mark on the ‘why we didn’t get the cool stuff over here’ record, Japan could forgo the three liter 3VZ V6 and instead equip theirs with the god-like three liter KZ turbo 4. Same displacement, similar power with superior fuel economy.

You might think this Hilux Surf is a sort of stealth-JDM, a way to have something that's phenomenally awesome without drawing too much attention to yourself. You'd be wrong, as the deep gloss maroon paint and two-tone treatment with large and wide 'SURF' decals on either side betray your '4Runner'. It has its wider-than-normal track, fender flares, front grill guard with fat fog lights, running boards and the rear spare tire carrier which pulls eyeballs left and right just because it’s so rad. And when people hear it run? Forget about it. This is an exceptionally handsome truck as you can plainly see. Body is clean and straight, with a few minor scrapes and scratches that are difficult to make out. Pictures speak for themselves but ‘not even a little’ rust is the biggest win of all in our opinion. Every seam, bolt, nut, pinch and seam weld is clean. There is no rust. None.

If you thought the exterior was clean then the interior should be no surprise. Clean, pristine, and quite difficult to find even minor wear, the inside of this Hilux Surf is royally spotless. No tears, no stains, no smells, no wear, even the floor mats look new. Moreover, everything is original including the stereo. Save for some leftover screw holes from whatever the previous owner insisted in drilling directly into the dash and some scratches on the glove box and in the rear cargo area, this is brand new. All windows work, as does the rear tailgate. Air conditioning works a treat as well.

Gone is the extraneous 3VZ gasoline V6, the automatic transmission, the high mileage and the rust, this Hilux Surf has none of those qualities. KZ turbo diesel, 5 speed manual transmission, under 47,000 miles, fantastic interior, killer color combo with the widebody stance. Add in the OEM Toyota grill guard up front with the spare tire carrier on the back with the 4x4 capability and you have a monumentally excellent vehicle for doing whatever it is you want to do. 4Runners are exceptionally long lived, this Hilux Surf will go on even longer.
