1992 Toyota Hilux 'Active Base' LN107 Katsuzaka Construction No. 15

You are looking at a singular, wholly unique Toyota Hilux. There are others, but there is only a single example of No.15 wearing it’s former occupation’s uniform proudly. Beyond the decals, this model is also one of the extremely small number of ‘Active Base’ Hiluxes. This gives you a unique, Toyota-equipped integrated power crane in the bed. Information on this package is extremely scarce, beyond a couple of scattered posts across the internet, a YouTube video a gentleman in Japan posted, and a press release from the 90s by Toyota itself it is extremely difficult to find any information on them. Lucky for us this Hilux’s crane is completely functional and complete.

Mechanically this Hilux is what you want: Diesel, manual transmission, 4x4. The 3L 2.8 liter 4 cyl NA diesel engine can not die, is completely cast iron (no aluminum head here) with wholly mechanical injection. Nobody would call this truck fast, but it absolutely will get you to where you need to go. AC works great, drives straight and true, no leaks, no burning of oil, no issues at all. She’s ready to work if need be.

Interior is actually remarkably sorted for being a former construction truck from 1992. Non smoker (if you can believe it!), with the benefit of thick vinyl seat covers being on it since new (since removed), allowing the great blue fabric covering the seats to survive. Original radio is still installed, with the OEM single speaker over on the driver’s side. No cracks in the dash, no tears in the seat, no burns anywhere.

‘Active Base’ is a Toyota-designated package that is applied to the trucks equipped with the unique crane system in the bed. Looks like a roll bar when stowed away, but hides a manually adjusted, electrically actuated crane capable of lifting 180-450 kg (396- 992 pounds) depending on angle and rotation of the boom. Toolkit behind the rear seat includes a few unique pieces as well including a metal L-bracket that adapts the standard bottle back to a quasi-outrigger connecting to a unique chassis portion on the rear left of the truck under the bed.

This 1992 Hilux is complete and original. All three keys, every portion of the toolkit is included, the complete manual set, including the ‘Active Base’ instructions, is also here. The only thing that has been added to this truck is the decals serving as its working uniform and almost 30 years of earned patina.
